Above and Beyond is an elective class that offers students the opportunity to explore a variety of topics in-depth, from Architecture and Engineering, Law, Environment, Media, Computer Technology, and more. The course may be taken in the fall and/or spring semesters. This elective is designed to allow students the opportunity to investigate independent study topics in-depth, to utilize critical and creative thinking skills, and to encourage students to find and nurture their individual strengths and talents in an academic setting. Curriculum will vary each semester and is largely based upon student interests. Students will engage in both hands-on and investigative topics, and the use of computer technology is embedded in each unit. Fall 2011 topics may include engineering, architecture, law, and an opportunity to explore the world of computer programming. Recommended for the gifted student, Above and Beyond is open to ALL 7th and 8th graders who seek enrichment and/or have an aptitude for self-directed learning.
